Steve Girson

Steve Girson joined the George Washington University School of Business in January 2024 as an assistant director of academic advising. He also serves as an instructor in the Business Leader Development Program.

Steve is passionate about advising students and helping them reach their full potential. He enjoys mentoring students both academically and personally so they can bring their best to their education when it matters the most. Steve uses his background in performance psychology to help students focus on their strengths and take ownership of what they can control during their undergraduate education in order to succeed.

Steve earned his M.S. in Kinesiology and Health with a concentration in Performance Psychology from Miami University and his B.S. in Kinesiology from Michigan State University, Go Green! Prior to joining GW, Steve has worked as a mental performance coach for the U.S. Army, an adaptive sports coordinator and senior research analyst for the U.S. Navy, educational coordinator at the Georgetown University School of Medicine, and most recently served as a senior academic advisor at the University of Maryland. In every job he has held, his goal has been to help people and elevate their achievements.

Steve grew up in Michigan and loves everything about Michigan State and Detroit sports. His favorite team is his hometown Detroit Lions and he is so proud of the organization's turnaround. In his free time he enjoys going on walks with his wife Paige and Australian Shepherd Harper, being on a pontoon boat with friends and family, reading or watching Harry Potter, and living his best life by the guiding mantra of controlling the controllables.
