Director

Refik Soyer

Refik Soyer’s areas of interests are Bayesian statistics and decision analysis, stochastic modeling, statistical aspects of reliability analysis, and time series analysis. He has published more than 120 papers and directed 15 doctoral dissertations. He has also co-edited a volume titled Mathematical Reliability: An Expository Perspective. Soyer’s research in the above areas, focus on modeling and methodology development, and applications of these models and methods to real problems. Some recent examples of such work include Bayesian design of accelerated life tests, simulation based stochastic programming, adversarial aspects of life testing, adversarial hypothesis testing, medical fraud assessment, Bayesian modeling of multivariate time series analysis, maintenance practices for rail road tracks, semi-parametric modeling of call center arrivals, and Bayesian modeling in ticket queues.

He is the director of the Institute for Integrating Statistics in Decision Sciences at GW. He also is a fellow of the American Statistical Association, a fellow of the Turkish Statistical Association and an elected member of the International Statistical Institute.
