BLD Program Mentors

The Business Leader Development (BLD) Program Mentor role is an opportunity for sophomore, junior, or senior students to work closely with an Instructor and gain experience as facilitators in a classroom setting. BLD Program Mentors support the planning and execution of the following BLD Program courses: BADM 1001 & 1002 (Business Leader Foundations I & II), BADM 1003 (Business Leader Foundations for Transfer Students), and BADM 3001 (Business Leader Career Strategy).

In addition to supporting GWSB’s educational mission, BLD Program Mentors develop competencies in the following areas:

  • Developing strong facilitation and interpersonal communication skills, including active listening, group facilitation, presentation delivery, and providing feedback
  • Fostering a welcoming and inclusive  community for students in the School of Business
  • Supporting GWSB students in becoming familiar with and connected to university resources.
  • Supporting student career and leadership development through experiential learning activities, industry-related workshops, and direct collaboration with F. David Fowler Career Center staff
  • Working closely with an Instructor and the BLD Program Leadership Team to develop educational resources that advance student learning within the BLD Program
  • Exhibiting strong organizational skills, time management, prioritization and the ability to take initiative on projects
  • Exemplifying strong moral reasoning and ethical decision making

BLD Program Mentors enrolled in the Bachelor of Science (BS) degree may also be eligible to enroll in an accompanying section of BADM 4001: Business Leader Launch, for one (1) academic credit and further support of their development as leaders and professionals. Successful applicants will receive further information on this course option once they have moved through the selection process. Eligibility requirements for BADM 4001: Business Leader Launch are outlined on the BLD Program BADM 4001 website.

Become a BLD Program Mentor!

BLD Program Mentors are selected each year during the spring academic semester through a selective application and interview process. If you are interested in applying, you are strongly encouraged to attend an information session. These sessions are led by the BLD Program Leadership Team and provide an opportunity to connect with current BLD Program Mentors and ask any questions about the position and the Mentor experience.

Information Sessions:

  • Tuesday, March 18, 2025 from 3:30-4:30pm ET (In-person in Duquès Hall, Room 155)
  • Wednesday, March 19, 2025 from 5:00-6:00pm ET (Virtual on Zoom)
  • Thursday, March 20, 2025 from 1:00-2:00pm ET (Virtual on Zoom

Interview Process:

  • Interviews are tentatively scheduled to take place between April 7-11 and April 14-16. We kindly ask that you prioritize holding availability on your calendar (apart from academic commitments) for these tentative interview dates. If you are selected for the interview round, you will be contacted via email to confirm an interview date and time.

BLD Program Mentors play an essential role in supporting community connections and leadership development among students in GWSB, helping incoming students with the transition into GW and GWSB, and supporting personal and professional development throughout the GWSB undergraduate experience. Please share a specific time when you served in a peer leadership role and actively worked toward supporting your peers in their learning and development. Share the context of your peer leadership experience, the specific steps/actions you took, and what the impact of those actions was.

This position requires taking individual and collaborative initiative to advance the student learning experience. Please provide an example of a time when you took the individual initiative to improve a project/event/initiative. What strategies did you use and how did you remain organized in managing your commitments and meeting relevant deadlines?
