Veterans Day Message

November 8, 2018

Dear GWSB Community,

With the approach of Veterans Day, I wanted to take the opportunity to honor all the veterans in the GWSB community, as well as those currently serving in our nation’s armed forces on active duty and in the reserves.

This Veterans Day, Sunday, November 11, is particularly significant, as it marks the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. Our veterans deserve our respect and gratitude — we owe them a debt we can never fully repay.

GW has long had a strong relationship with the military and military veterans. The GW Office of Military and Veteran Services provides outstanding support for student veterans, dependents and military personnel. We are proud to participate in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program, partnering with the Department of Veterans Affairs to help fund tuition assistance for veterans. Our GW military/veteran community has a strong support network in the many student organizations devoted to their interests, including GW Veterans, GW NROTC Students, Friends of Army ROTC, Silver Wings, and One Mile for Love, a GW student-founded organization that raises awareness for the families of ill, injured and wounded service members.

We are proud of our reputation as one of the best schools for veterans and military personnel. The Military Times recently ranked GW as one of the top 20 schools in its annual “Best for Vets” listing.

On November 11, please take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of the day, and if you know a veteran or active-duty service member, please thank him or her for serving our country.

All the best,
