Sanjay Jain is an associate industry professor in the Department of Decision Sciences at the School of Business at the George Washington University (GW). At GW, he teaches graduate classes in the MS programs in Project Management and Business Analytics, and in MBA and EMBA programs.

He has also participated in delivering international executive programs in project management for GW. His research interests are in the development and application of decision science techniques to complex systems with current focus on smart manufacturing, supply chains and project management.

He has received research grants from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (technical arm of U.S. Department of Commerce) continuously since 2002 that add up to nearly $1 million.

Professor Jain has been teaching at GW since Fall 2005. Earlier he was a research faculty member at Grado Industrial & Systems Engineering Department at Virginia Tech for a few years. Before moving to academia, he accumulated over a dozen years of international R&D and consulting experience working at Accenture, Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology, and General Motors North American Operations Technical Center.

He also served as the Vice President of Research for the International School of Project Management in New Delhi (www.ispm.in) for 2009-2013.

Dr. Jain has over 80 publications including technical reports, and papers in technical journals and refereed conference proceedings. His recent work has been published in the European Journal of Operational Research, International Journal of Advanced Intelligence Paradigms, and International Journal of Production Economics. He has presented his work at premier conferences in their respective disciplines including the Project Management Institute’s Research Conference and the Winter Simulation Conference.

Dr. Jain served as an associate editor of the International Journal of Simulation and Process Modeling for a decade and has been serving even longer as a member of the editorial board of International Journal of Industrial Engineering. He also served as a co-editor of the Proceedings of 2010 Winter Simulation Conference and as the lead editor of the Proceedings of 2011 Winter Simulation Conference.

Sanjay Jain’s research interests are in the development and application of decision science techniques to complex systems with current focus on smart manufacturing, supply chains and project management. He has received research grants from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (technical arm of U.S. Department of Commerce) continuously since 2002 that add up to nearly $1 million.

Over the years, his research has spanned a number of areas including manufacturing operations management, supply chain management, homeland security and emergency response, and project management. His PhD thesis focused on decision framework for real time scheduling in flexible manufacturing systems. He has focused on improving manufacturing and supply chain operations using discrete event simulation and systems dynamics simulation. He also explored use of simulation modeling for improving approaches for homeland security and emergency response. He proposed approaches for applying project management for emergency response. In recent years, he has focused on improvements to manufacturing and supply chains that lead to reduction in their impact on the environment.

In his tenure at the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), he led a research group on manufacturing planning and scheduling. During this time he also led a multi-year advanced research project aimed at utilizing parallel and distributed simulations for supply chain applications involving researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Exeter, U.K., and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
