The “George Talks Business” guest series at the GW School of Business (GWSB) closed out a very successful inaugural season with its largest “in-studio” audience yet, as an overflow crowd packed the Jack Morton Auditorium for special guest Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Mme. Lagarde was interviewed by Danny Leipziger, managing director of The Growth Dialogue and professor of practice of international business at GWSB.

Mme. Lagarde and Dr. Leipziger discussed the current world economic situation, which Mme. Lagarde described as a “delicate moment for the global economy,” adding that the IMF had recently revised its estimate for worldwide economic growth from 3.6 to 3.3 percent.

Mme. Lagarde said that geopolitical issues — especially the BREXIT situation — and trade tensions between China and the U.S. posed significant challenges to economic growth. “Trade is a big locomotive for growth,” she said.

The hour-long presentation concluded with a 15-minute audience Q&A session. Watch the full program here.
