On-Campus Master's and MBA Orientation

The next orientation for all on-campus Master's and on-campus MBA degree programs will be held on two days: Wednesday, August 16 and Saturday, August 19, 2023.

These orientations will be held on campus in the School of Business buildings. They will provide you with an overview of the programs, acquaint you with the technology you will be using for your classes, and review resources available to you as a student. Students will receive an email from their academic advisor with RSVP information. Subsequent information with event links will be sent closer to the day of the orientation.

All incoming students admitted to the following online programs are required to attend these orientations. The on-campus Master's and MBA program orientations will be split between the two days as follows (students will only need to attend on the day of their program’s orientation):

Wednesday, August 16

  • Master of Accountancy
  • MS in Information Systems Technology
  • MS in International Business
  • MS in Marketing
  • MS in Sport Management
  • MS in Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management

Saturday, August 19

  • Master of Human Resource Management
  • MS in Interdisciplinary Business Studies
  • MS in Management
  • MS in Project Management
  • Flex MBA (also known as Professional MBA)

If you do not see your program list, you are likely part of a program that has an orientation held earlier in August. You can view all program orientations here.

Preparing for Orientation

Connect with your Advisor and View Resources

All new students should receive communication from their academic advisor prior to arriving to the program. If you do not know who you advisor is, please visit the Graduate Program Academic Advisors and Appointment Scheduling page to learn more. Additionally, you should begin getting to know the resources available to you during your program. Visit the Resources for Current Students page to learn about getting started, registration, orientation and student life.

Explore Blackboard and Review Additional Orientation Resources

All students should explore our online orientation materials (currently down for updates) prior to the start of their program and review additional orientation resources to help them prepare for their program.

Brush Up On Your Quantitative Skills and Economic Knowledge

Get a head start by watching videos from Khan Academy or enrolling in a MOOC from CourseraEdXFutureLearn or Stanford Online. This will help you to prepare for the Data Analysis and Decisions class you are required to take.

Start Reading the Financial Times

All GW students can create an account with The Financial Times using their GW email address.
