September 8, 2020

The George Washington University School of Business community was saddened to learn of the passing of Ahmad Jarrah, associate professor of decision sciences, who died this weekend. Dr. Jarrah had been a member of the GWSB faculty since August 2008.

“Ahmad was a big part of our department and the school of business community,” Dr. Murat Tarimcilar, chairperson of the Department of Decision Sciences, said. “He had a significant impact on our way of life with his gentle and spiritual soul — a true professional admired and appreciated by his colleagues and students alike. He was a model human being. We will miss him greatly.”

Before starting his career in higher education, Dr. Jarrah spent 14 years in the consulting industry designing, developing and managing the deployment of advanced decision support systems for air and ground logistics and transportation. His areas of expertise included large-scale optimization, logistics and transportation analytics, and supply chain analytics. He brought this relevant experience to the classroom with great dedication to his students.

Dr. Jarrah received a bachelor’s in engineering from American University of Beirut and a master’s in engineering from Texas A&M University. He earned a Ph.D. in management science from the University of Texas.

“Ahmad was a terrific asset to the entire GWSB community. His loss will be deeply felt by current and former students and his colleagues,” Dean Anuj Mehrotra said. “We are thinking of his family and sending our best wishes to them in their time of grief."

May he rest in peace.
