MBA Degree Combined With a Graduate Certificate
Current students in the MBA program may combine their MBA degree with a graduate certificate. Courses completed for the certificate may be applied towards the MBA elective requirements if they meet the following conditions:
- Graduate-level and credit-bearing
- Not applied to the completion of requirements for another degree
- Letter graded
MBA Programs work with the School of Medicine & Health Sciences, Trachtenberg School of Public Policy & Public Administration, and various programs within the School of Business.
School of Business
- Graduate Certificates
All students enrolled in a graduate degree program within the School of Business, and in good academic standing, are eligible to be admitted to one of more than 15 graduate certificate programs.
These students are required to apply, but are not required to submit supporting credentials (such as transcripts, test scores or recommendations) unless they are applying to the Business Analytics, Analytics for Managers, or Quantitative Business Foundations graduate certificates; those programs require a full online application.

All applicants, including current GW Business students, must apply through the GW Engineering application portal. The application requirements may differ from GWSB's standard certificate application process. As more information about the structure, process, and outcomes of health care emerges, and the science of quality expands, quality improvement is becoming a distinct area of expertise. The Healthcare Quality certificate at GW was developed to meet an emerging demand for quality and patient safety specialists who have the capacity and competence to grow and sustain a culture of continuous improvement at all levels and within every sector of the health care delivery system.

- Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management
Overview
The Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management provides an overview of central concepts in managing nonprofit organizations and is intended to meet the needs of students seeking a focused experience in order to prepare for or advance their careers in the nonprofit sector. It may be appropriate for students who seek to expand their knowledge but who do not wish to commit to a master’s degree program.
Certificate students enroll in regular courses of the Trachtenberg School and earn graduate credit. Regular graduate tuition and fees apply.
The Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management program is available at the George Washington University’s main campus in downtown Washington, D.C. It is not available as a distance learning program.
Courses & Requirements
The Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management requires that students complete twelve (12) credit hours and maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average in order to be awarded the Graduate Certificate.

PPPA 6031 – Governing and Managing Nonprofit Organizations
PPPA 6032 – Managing Fund Raising and Philanthropy
Elective Courses
Any two of the following:
PPPA 6016 – Public and Nonprofit Program Evaluation
PPPA 6033 – Nonprofit Enterprise
PPPA 6034 – Managing Nonprofit Boards
PPPA 6053 – Financial Management for Public, Nonprofit, and Health Organizations
PPPA 6058 – International Development NGO Management
Other Trachtenberg School nonprofit courses that may be offered from time to time. With prior approval of the field advisor, certain non-Trachtenberg School courses at GW may be counted toward the elective group.
Admission to the Program
Students applying to the Certificate Program do not need to submit a GRE score. Otherwise, applicants are required to meet the admission standards for admission to the Master's of Public Administration or Master's of Public Policy degree program.
Relation to the Master's Program
If certificate students decide to apply to the MPA or MPP degree program, they must meet the admissions requirements of the program, including GRE requirements. Up to 9 credits of their certificate coursework taken prior to admission to a degree program will be accepted in the master’s program within two years of completing the course and if a grade of B or better has been earned in the course. Certificate students who think they may wish to apply their entire certificate courses toward a degree (that is, all 12 credits) thus need to apply and gain admission to the degree program before registering for their fourth course.
