Dear GW Business Community,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to another academic year at the George Washington University School of Business.
I extend a warm welcome, especially to our incoming students. Starting a new chapter brings its share of both excitement and uncertainty, but I know you will soon find your place within our community. Get to know your classmates, build relationships with faculty and take advantage of the opportunities around you. There will be more opportunities than you expect.
Our momentum at GW Business didn’t stall over the summer. Through our Global and Experiential Education department, students took their education into the field, lobbying on Capitol Hill, learning about Waymo’s use of AI behind its autonomous vehicles ahead of its D.C. rollout and studying global business in London. We hosted MBA students from the University of Chile for our partnership capstone program, and our advancement team kept alumni connected through events in D.C., New York and Colorado.
As I begin my second fall semester as dean, the defining identity of this school has come into sharp focus. GW Business was founded in 1928 as the School of Government. Business and policy were fused in our name from the beginning. Teaching students to work at that intersection is exactly the education this moment demands.
Business does not happen in a vacuum. It happens inside rules, rules that get written, changed and contested a few blocks from this campus. Our students get to experience and learn from both sides of that ledger, and that is what sets them apart.
We are widening that path this fall with three new programs: the Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence for Business (MSAIB), our undergraduate program in Strategic Management and Public Policy (SMPP) and the Graduate Certificate in Affordable Housing. Each one sits squarely where business meets the forces that shape it: technology, policy and society.
To our new and returning students: I challenge you to take the driver's seat in your own education. You won't just study the World Bank, the IMF, the U.S. Capitol, and the State Department. You will engage with them directly. Take full advantage of an ecosystem no other business school can offer. The relationships you forge here will not only help you land your dream job, but will also become lifelong friendships.
Every student, faculty and staff member here plays a vital role in our community, and our collective work on campus shapes the future of global business.
I look forward to all that we will accomplish together this fall and throughout the year ahead.
