Jenny Zha Giedt is an assistant professor in the Department of Accountancy at the GW School of Business. She teaches ACCY 2001 “Introduction to Financial Accounting” in the undergraduate business program. She has also taught a doctoral-level research seminar in the past.
She earned her Ph.D. from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, where she was selected for the Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor award. Her research focuses on companies’ reviews of strategic alternatives and the capital market consequences of corporate disclosures. Her research is published in academic journals, The Accounting Review, Review of Accounting Studies, Contemporary Accounting Research, Abacus, and Annual Review of Financial Economics. Her research has been featured in Duke Financial Economics Center's FinReg Blog, Columbia Law School's Blue Sky Blog, and the Harvard Law School Forum on Corporate Governance.
Prior to Berkeley, Dr. Zha Giedt worked in the audit and forensic groups at KPMG LLP in Los Angeles. She also has experience in the mutual fund and hedge fund industries, having worked at US Bank and Dorchester Capital, both in Los Angeles. She is a registered CPA in California and a Deloitte Foundation Doctoral Fellow. She obtained her undergraduate degrees in Accounting and Finance from the University of Southern California.
