Message From the Dean — March 2019

March 21, 2019

Dear GWSB Community,

As spring blossoms in Washington, D.C., our students, alumni, faculty and staff are as busy as ever!

As you may have heard me say, our guiding purpose at GWSB is to put students’ interests first in all that we do. In this spirit, let me begin by congratulating the amazing students who will be representing our school proudly in the upcoming New Venture Competition. School of Business students accounted for more than a third of all competition participants, and of the 115 teams in the finals, 52 had one or more team members from GWSB.

On the academic front, we have completely reimagined our suite of graduate programs to provide students with the education they need, in a format and timeline of their choosing. Initiatives include: an accelerated part-time MBA program, 4+1 programs that allow our undergraduate students to take and double-count nine credits toward their four-year degree and a master’s degree, expanded online offerings, and customizable degree programs based on “stackable” courses and graduate certificate programs.

We are working to create a “Dean’s Corporate Council” to foster ongoing, regular communication between GWSB and the greater DMV corporate community.

My meetings with Undergraduate Business Association leaders, town halls both in person and online with our graduate students, and meetings with alumni and parents in New York City and in Boston have all been very rewarding. It has been especially satisfying to see the engagement from our alumni as they tune in weekly to our “George Talks Business” series, and offer positive feedback on our new programs.

As you can see, we are doing a lot! But it is not enough just to have the best programs and opportunities — we must also spread the excitement we share with the world. The more we highlight the wonderful things going on at GWSB, the more the world will take notice. So join me in celebrating the successes of our students. Help spread the word about our new approach to graduate business education and how we now have one of the most flexible, customizable, and accessible graduate program portfolios of any business school.

Please follow (and share information from) GWSB on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube — while not forgetting the power of good old-fashioned word of mouth buzz!

It is important we all continue to communicate — among ourselves in the GWSB Community and with the rest of the world. I look forward to continue hearing from you.

See you around campus!

All the best,
