Dear GWSB Community,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break.
I’m very excited about the new initiatives we’ll be launching in January. We have come up with some innovative ways to enhance and expand our profile as a premier educational institution.
The first of these is “George Talks Business,” a regularly scheduled series of interviews featuring experts on a variety of important business topics. The on-campus sessions will be webcast live and archived online for easy access if you should happen to miss one. The inaugural George Talk is slated for January 28 at 6:00 p.m. in Funger Hall, Auditorium 108, and I’m excited to be the moderator who will interview GW President Thomas LeBlanc. Please visit the link for details on the forthcoming talks.
Another is the “What’s Under the Hood in GWSB Online Programs” initiative. “What’s Under the Hood” will include a series of promotional videos and several types of events designed to engage faculty and staff, break down misconceptions, and enlighten our community about the benefits and opportunities of teaching and learning online.
There will also be multiple opportunities to network with online program students and alumni as well as faculty and staff through speaker events, instructional design workshops, and online “happy hours.” I believe that online learning is one of the keys to the future of business education — and we are getting it right at GWSB by not using a standard template for our online courses but rather working with individual instructors to develop courses that most effectively bring their lessons and assignments to life to deliver a meaningful learning experience.
We are also launching a national search for an executive director for F. David Fowler Career Center to build on its great foundation and bring it to the next level of excellence in serving our students’ interests, helping them achieve career success anywhere in the world.
And speaking of “anywhere in the world,” I will be on the road quite a bit in the coming weeks and months. I’ll be traveling around the U.S. and to China and India to meet with alumni to enlist their continued support for the school and its mission, and to recruit new GWSB students.
It’s going to be a busy semester. Let’s make it a great one!
All the best,
Anuj Mehrotra, Ph.D.
