Bachelor of Science in Business - Sport, Event, and Hospitality Management Concentration

Overview

This concentration provides students with a theoretical and practical understanding of the sport, event, and hospitality industries. Students select one of the three tracks, which offer preparation in the management and marketing of:

  • Sport Events, Organizations, Products, & Athletes
  • Special Events, Expositions, Festivals, & Other Entertainment Properties
  • Tourism Destinations & Businesses Related to Tourism, Including Cities, Attractions, Hotels, Restaurants & Airlines

Career Options in Sport, Event, and Hospitality Management

Typical entry-level positions include those in collegiate and professional sport organizations, sport marketing agencies, sport manufacturers, sport and event facilities, hotels and resorts, restaurants and food service operations, visitor and convention bureaus, theme parks and recreation centers, museums, tour operators, travel management firms, destination management companies, event producers, associations, corporate sponsors, and consulting firms. Examples include SFX Sports, IMG, the NFL Players Association, the United States Olympic Committee, the Washington Wizards, the Washington Football Team, Nike, the NBA, NHL, American Express, the Washington Convention and Tourism Corporation, the Walt Disney Company, The TCI Companies, the Smithsonian, Marriott International, Choice Hotels, United, Amtrak, Ridgewells Catering, the American Heart Association and PKF Consulting.

Degree Requirements

The following requirements must be fulfilled for the concentration in sport, event, and hospitality management: 15 credits in required and selected courses; at least 9 of these credits must be taken in residence. All concentration courses must be completed with a minimum grade of C-.
