Project Management Essentials

Today’s dynamic industries demand project managers who can respond to change, meet customer needs, and maximize resources. In this eight-week online short course offered by the GW School of Business and 2U, project management faculty director Dr. Homayoun Khamooshi will introduce you to the foundational principles of project management and teach you the skills needed to lead your projects on time and within scope and budget. Discover techniques for creating your own project schedule, learn to identify risks and constraints, and unlock key leadership strategies for guiding teams and communicating with stakeholders. On completion of this course, you’ll be equipped with a practical, hands-on toolkit to help you successfully execute projects from initiation to completion.

Course objectives:

  • Build core project management competencies, including strategic project planning, scheduling, and time, cost and scope management
  • Learn to leverage practical project management tools, including Gantt charts, project initiation documents (PIDs), and work breakdown structure (WBS)
  • Gain key interpersonal, leadership and strategic skills to boost team motivation and engage more effectively with stakeholders
  • Develop the ability to manage multiple projects across industries and execute them effectively from beginning to end
