A master's degree in finance at the George Washington University School of Business (GWSB) is designed for individuals who hold a bachelor's or master's degree in business administration or a degree in another quantitative discipline. It emphasizes both financial theory and quantitative methods in financial management. Students engage in applied research and modeling, using large professional databases and computer software packages. They explore the international and regulatory dimensions of finance while focusing on risk management, financial engineering, banking, corporate finance and portfolio analysis and management.

Students in this finance master's program can choose between an intensive program (completing the degree in 12 months, including a summer session) or a regular program (completing the degree in 24 months with two summer sessions). In either program, students learn about advanced corporate finance, portfolio and risk management and other financial analysis and strategy through statistics, econometrics and financial and computer modeling. Students simultaneously gain advanced knowledge of financial markets, real estate and build quantitative financial techniques. This STEM-designated finance degree unlocks roles in financial consulting, investment management, corporate finance, insurance, real estate investment and more.

Admission to the Master of Science in Finance program is highly competitive and enrollment is limited. Due to the rolling admissions policy, it is recommended that candidates submit applications early. The candidate’s major and trend in grades, personal achievements, and letters of recommendation also affect the admission decision. This program seeks social, ethnic, cultural and geographical diversity in its student body.

Admissions Process

Applying to a program at the GW School of Business may seem like a complicated process, but the GWSB admissions team is here to help. The application process for this program can be found on our How to Apply page. All application materials should be sent to the GWSB Graduate Admissions Office. The GRE or GMAT test is not required — however, if you feel that submitting your scores will strengthen your application, you are welcome to submit them. We also offer a wealth of resources to help you finance your degree, from scholarships and fellowships to loans and work-study arrangements.
