Degree Requirements

Undergraduate Degree Requirements for Students enrolling in GWSB Fall 2020 and forward 

The deadline for current GWSB students to switch to the new degree was Monday, June 15 2020, there are no exceptions to this deadline.

Bachelor of Science Degree

Effective Fall 2020, all new students enrolling in the School of Business will have the Bachelor of Science as their degree. 

Bachelor of Science Degree Requirements

All students, regardless of major, are required to complete the following requirements: 

UW 1020 University Writing

6 credits in Writing in the Disciplines (WID) courses taken after UW 1020 and in separate semesters.

One Quantitative Reasoning 

  • School of Business students will satisfy this requirement with either a course from their Math or Statistics sequence.

One Scientific Reasoning with Lab

  • There are two ways to find a course that will satisfy the Scientific Reasoning with Lab requirement: 

    • Search the “CSCI” Course Attribute on the Schedule of Classes. Course Attribute is not the same thing as Course Subject. 

    • Visit the GPAC Course List webpage and select Scientific Reasoning in Natural and/or Physical Lab Sciences.

Two Critical Analysis in Social Sciences 

  • School of Business students will satisfy this requirement with ECON 1011 and ECON 1012.

One Critical Analysis Course in the Humanities 

  • There are two ways to find a course that will satisfy the Critical Analysis in the Humanities requirement: 

    • Search the “CAH” Course Attribute on the Schedule of Classes. Course Attribute is not the same thing as Course Subject. 

    • Visit the GPAC Course List webpage and select Critical Thinking in the Humanities. 

Business Leader Development (BLD) Program

  • BADM 1001 Business Leader Foundations I and BADM 1002 Business Leader Foundations II 

    • Or BADM 1003 Business Leader Foundations for Transfer Students 

  • BADM 3001 Business Leader Career Strategy 

  • BADM 4001 Business Leader Launch 

ECON 1011 Principles of Economics I and ECON 1012 Principles of Economics II

Math Sequence

Statistics Sequence 

 

  • The required statistics sequence will vary by major, review major pages to learn more. 

Major Requirement

  • All students must declare at least one major and are encouraged to do so by the end of their second year at GW. 
  • Students may declare a maximum of two majors. 

  • All major courses require a grade of C- or better. 

  • Majors require 18 credits to be completed in residency (this includes Study Abroad).

  • Each major must have 15 credits of unique courses.

Concentration Requirement

  • Students with Business as their major must declare one concentration or a second major in the School of Business. 
  • Concentrations are restricted to GWSB students only.

  • GWSB students may declare a maximum of three concentrations. 

  • All concentration courses require a grade of C- or better. 

  • Concentrations require 9 credits to be completed in residency (this includes Study Abroad).

  • Concentration courses may not share with any other degree requirement, except WID courses.

  • You may not declare a concentration that is the same as your major (ex. Accountancy major cannot declare Accountancy concentration)

Minor Requirement 

  • Students with Finance as their primary major must declare a non-GWSB minor or a non-GWSB second major. 

  • Students may declare a maximum of two minors. 

  • May share with major courses, so long as major continues to have 15 unique credits. 

  • Cannot share with Concentration requirements.

Elective Requirements

GWSB students must declare one of the following majors for their Bachelor of Science Degree:

Concentration Options

Concentrations are restricted to GWSB students only and students may declare up to three concentrations. If a GWSB student's primary major is Business, they must declare at least one concentration. All other majors may declare a concentration in addition to their major requirements. 


The 4+1 Program 

GWSB students have the opportunity to apply for a 4+1 Program, which may allow them to complete their undergraduate and graduate degree within five years. Click here to learn more about this unique opportunity. 


 

Undergraduate Degree Requirements for Students who enrolled GWSB Fall 2014 - Summer 2020 

Students who enrolled in the School of Business between Fall 2014 and Summer 2020 have the option to declare the Bachelor of Accountancy (BAccy), Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), or the Bachelor of Science with a Finance Major (BSF).

Resources for GWSB Students
  • 4-Year Plans (downloadable Excel document) 
  • Academic Forms (Minor Declaration, Second Major Declaration, etc.) 
  • A-Level Credit: Students can earn credit for A-Level courses in which they earn a C or better. The courses will transfer into GW as a 1099 course. For example A-Level Math where a student earns a C or better will transfer in as MATH 1099.
    A-Level Credit will only count as an elective, there will be no exceptions to this.
  • Minor or Second Major Options (enrollment in minor or second major is contingent upon department approval)
  • Review GW’s Center for Career Services’ Career Option Sheets to become familiar with how your minor or second major option relates to sample occupations, potential topics, work settings, student organizations, professional associations, online resources and key skills needed in specific industries.

Options for Non-GWSB Students 

Students enrolled in CCAS, ESIA, MSPH, or SEAS should speak with their home school advisor to declare any of the second majors or minors below, as all Non-GWSB are approved to declare these fields of study. 

Students may speak with a GWSB advisor if they have any questions on curriculum requirements.  

Non-GWSB students are ineligible to declare any of the School of Business concentrations listed above and no exceptions will be made.
