Need-Based Financial Aid

Student loans are based on a combination of financial need and creditworthiness and are available only to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Most students apply to the Federal Direct Stafford Loan program, the Federal Graduate PLUS program, or both. Other private and federal loans are also available.

All federal loans require the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For the fall term, students must submit this form to the federal processor by May 1.

For complete a complete list of loan resources, instructions, and help applying for loans, visit the Office of Student Financial Assistance. You may also find it helpful to review the checklist for new GW graduate students.

Payment Plans

There are a variety of ways to pay your student account bill and many students will use a combination of methods to settle the account in full.

The university has partnered with ECSI to offer an interest-free monthly payment plan available to all students. 10 month (2 semester), 5 month (1 semester) & 3 month (Summer) plans are available.

Employer Reimbursement

Employer reimbursement is typically contingent upon academic performance. Students who are receiving reimbursement from their employers are responsible for paying the balance in full by the start of the semester.

For more information visit the Student Accounts Office (SAO).

Third Party Billing

The Student Accounts Office (SAO) accepts authorizations from third party sponsors to bill them directly. A third party sponsor is an embassy, government agency, or private company that pays all, or a portion, of a student’s bill directly to the university.

Third party billing authorization documents must be submitted by the third week of the semester. The University does not accept sponsorship documentation that is contingent upon grades received for course work. Students are responsible for all tuition and fees not covered by a sponsor.
