N. Andrew ("Andy") Cohen, Ph.D, is a visiting assistant professor of management at the George Washington University School of Business (GWSB). Dr. Cohen has been on faculty at GWSB since 2011. He teaches Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management, Organizational Change, Leadership, and Social Networks to undergraduate, MBA, Masters of Human Resources, and executive audiences. Dr. Cohen was honored with the Outstanding Undergraduate Faculty Award at GWSB for the 2013-14 academic year.

Dr. Cohen is also an executive coach and has worked with clients in the financial services, consulting, and legal industries.

From 2017 to 2019, Dr. Cohen held a variety of senior administrative positions at GWSB. Most recently, he was Director of Graduate Leadership and Career Development in the Fowler Career Center, overseeing career consulting and program development for GWSB’s 1600 graduate students. Prior to taking on this role, Dr. Cohen was Director of MBA Programs and Admissions where he oversaw all of GWSB’s MBA Programs, encompassing the recruitment, admissions, curriculum, and academic advising for over 800 MBA students in three formats — full-time, part-time, and online.

Dr. Cohen’s research centers on social networks, teams, and leadership in the workplace. He has examined these phenomena in various corporate settings, in public schools, within community service teams, among elite athletes/performers, and among college students.  His work has been published in Organization Science and The Journal of Educational Change and presented at the annual meetings of the Academy of Management and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP). He is a member of the Academy of Management, the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and the American Psychological Association.

Prior to embarking on his academic career, Dr. Cohen had a long career in the private sector. Most recently he was an internal Executive Coach at Capital One Financial Corporation and, prior to that, a member of the top management team at Capital One where he was responsible for new business development and was founder and divisional CEO of one of Capital One’s early new business ventures. Prior to Capital One, Dr. Cohen was a Partner at Oliver Wyman and Company, a global management consulting firm, where he specialized in market and operational strategies for large U.S. financial institutions.

Dr. Cohen holds a Ph.D in Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in Applied Mathematics, Economics, and Philosophy from Brown University. He also completed the Leadership Coaching Certificate program at Georgetown University.

Dr. Cohen is the proud father of two 20somethings, a rabid football fan, an avid downhill skier (and sometimes ski instructor) and a budding cyclist and triathlete.
