Gilbert C. Yancey is entering his seventh year as the Executive Director of the F. David Fowler Career Center. During this time he has transformed the George Washington Business School’s career services office into a flagship operation that attracts prospective students and parents making school choice decisions; employers seeking top talent; alumni looking for effective ways to support their alma mater; and other college career centers in search of best practices.
Since joining the Fowler Career Center, the student employment rates and starting compensation have risen significantly and the school has been consistently ranked by the major ranking institutions. Prior to joining GWSB, Gil was senior vice president and managing director of Lee Hecht Harrison LLC’s Washington and Baltimore area offices. Under his leadership the firm’s market presence grew to offices in DC, McLean, VA and Columbia, MD and rapidly won market share from competitors with greater name recognition and longevity. These offices won multiple top performance awards for providing career management, outplacement, leadership development and executive coaching services to organizations and individuals. Yancey chaired a committee for the Greater Washington Board of Trade focused to create a Public/Private partnership with the Federal and Private sectors to ease the transition of government employees from the public to the private sector.
Before joining LHH, Gil was Director of Human Resources for Bell Atlantic Corporation (Verizon) – a leading telecommunications and information services company. Yancey received his B.A. in History and Government from Virginia Union University in Richmond, VA. He served on the Board of Directors for the National Kidney Foundation for twelve years, and continues to serve on the Board of Directors for the DC Children’s Trust Fund. He is also a member of National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) and the MBA Career Services and Employer Alliance (MBACSEA).
