Dr. Carter Presents at 2011 Strengths in Education Conference

Joelle Davis Carter, Ph.D., Director for Undergraduate Programs, was invited by the Gallup Organization to co-present a seminar and lecture during the organization's 2011 Strengths in Education Conference held in Omaha, NE. Dr. Carter partnered with Dr. Tiffany Fountaine, Director of the Center for Academic Success and Achievement at Morgan State University, to deliver a session entitled, "Strengths Matter: Strategies to Integrate Strengths-Based Education into Pre-College and First-Year Programs" and an academic talk entitled, "The Tale of Institutions: Increasing Student Engagement with Strengths". Both presentations provided the context and strategies for the infusion of strengths-based education into the mandatory GWSB First Year Development Program course required for all incoming undergraduate business students. StrengthsQuest(c) is a comprehensive student development program designed to encourage students to think more intentionally about how they can build upon their innate talents and strengths and focus less on their deficiencies. The program is grounded in principles of positive psychology and demonstrated both strong construct validity and reliability through numerous statistical tests.
Dr. Carter is also a member of Strengths Advisory Network. Members of the network are respected experts in education and strengths development whom partner with institutions and individuals to enhance and integrate the strengths philosophy into higher education programs.
