Dean Singleton Appointed as Treasurer/Secretary for HRCI’s Board Lawrence G. Singleton, associate dean for undergraduate programs and associate professor of accountancy, has been selected as Treasurer/Secretary for the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) Board. HRCI is an independent, internationally recognized certifying body for the HR profession. Established in 1976, HRCI awards certifications to professionals who meet minimum eligibility standards and pass a rigorous examination. HRCI testing requires professionals to demonstrate their expertise in both the underlying principles of HR practice and the real-world application of those principles. The Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) has certified nearly 90,000 HR professionals across the globe who have demonstrated a mastery of professional knowledge through rigorous testing in core HR principles and their application in business. HRCI is an affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management, the world’s largest professional association devoted to HR management. HRCI has seen their certification program expand and is diligently working towards creating an increase in awareness of the value of certification to HR professionals. HRCI currently offers four certifications for practicing HR professionals: the PHR® (Professional in Human Resources); the SPHR® (Senior Professional in Human Resources); the GPHR® (Global Professional in Human Resources); and the California state-specific PHR-CA and SPHR-CA (PHR with state certification in California and SPHR with state certification in California).

Attention: Seniors preparing for job search and Juniors seeking spring or summer Internships The newest technology at the Career Center is INTERVIEWSTREAM, a computerized interview training program. It can be accessed at the Career Center in Duques 560 or at home (using a webcam). How does it work? A recruiter (on tape) pitches interview questions at you and the webcam records your responses. You can repeat your response several times or proceed to another question. A self-evaluation allows you to rate your performance on non-verbal communication (such as eye contact, voice, posture and etiquette) as well as verbal communication (such as impressive introduction, clarity of expression, use of proper grammar, and ability to talk about skills.) Find out more about this on GWorkSB.com It is especially recommended for Seniors who are now preparing for job interviews and Juniors seeking Spring or Summer Internships. If you have any questions on resume writing, internships, jobs and other career oriented questions, please contact Sylvan von Burg at 202-994-3692. On Campus Recruiting Update
