Study Abroad

If you want to expose yourself to new cultures, new people, and new experiences, consider studying abroad. As a student in the School of Business (GWSB), you have many opportunities to study abroad through one of the GWSB specific programs or you may look at the George Washington University’s study centers or affiliated programs. What You Must Know

Your first step is to do the research by either visiting the Office of Study Abroad at 812 20th Street or by visiting their website at http://www.studyabroad.gwu.edu. GWSB students will work with both the Office of Study Abroad and either study abroad advisor in the Advising Center, Jessica Ortiz or Deborah Coburn , to find an appropriate program. Typically, GWSB students go abroad Fall or Spring of their junior year.

Study Abroad Guidelines and Rules

Students must research the program(s) in which they are interested. After discussion with either Jessica Ortiz or Deborah Coburn, a program will be chosen that meets GWSB program requirements and fulfills the student’s needs.

The last 30 hours of your degree must be completed at GWU (27 of which must be Business and/or Accountancy courses).

BADM 197 may be taken ONLY at GWU.

It is recommended that no more than 9 hours of business classes be taken away from GWU per semester.

A maximum of two courses from your field of concentration may be taken away from GWU.

Students must attend the Office of Study Abroad’s pre-departure workshops.

Students must earn a “C” or better for credit to transfer back to GWU.

Credit for internships or independent studies will not be accepted into the BBA or BACCY program.

Before the student leaves for the Study Abroad program, the following will be completed:

His/her Field of Concentration(s) will be declared.

Student will be advised for the semester of return to GW.

Petition to break residency if returning to less than 30 credit hours (in special circumstances).

Petition to use extra credit from 4 or 5 credit classes to fulfill a non-business elective.

All study abroad materials must be completed, signed and return to the Office of Study Abroad and Advising Center.
