Scholarships for Domestic Students

All students in the GMBA program will be considered for merit-based scholarships. Students with U.S. citizenship may also apply to the scholarships below based on their eligibility.



City Year Give-a-Year Partnership Award

City Year Give-a-Year Partnership Award


Awarded to up to three students per year in the Global MBA program who are serving, or have served, as a City Year corps member.

Eligibility

Open to students who meet the following requirements:

  • Is a current City Year corps member or City Year alum who has completed one year of service, or a City Year staff member employed for at least 2 years.
  • Has been admitted and plans to pursue the Global MBA Program.
  • Is a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.

Benefits

  • Scholarship Award:
    $25,000 tuition scholarship for up to 2 recipients per year. Applicants will be considered for additional merit aid based on the academic strength of their application. This scholarship dollar amount is not renewable for the second year, but will be dispersed throughout the duration of the program at a set rate to be determined in the scholarship award.
  • Application Fee Waiver
  • One-Year Deferral:
    Students who are admitted to the program and decide to serve with City Year may defer starting the Global MBA program for one year.

How to Apply

  • Step 1:
    Candidates must first apply to the Global MBA program. To receive the application waiver, select “Pay by Check” in the section of the application that requires you to pay the application fee. In the Optional Essay section of your application, indicate that you are applying for the City Year scholarship.
  • Step 2:
    Provide a verification letter from City Year that confirms your membership or service. To obtain your letter, email Nan Shearer, City Year Alumni & Career Services Manager at giveayear@cityyear.org with “GW MBA: City Year verification letter request” in the subject line. In your email, include the site where you served and the dates or your service. City Year will forward a verification letter to GWSB’s Admissions Office, where it will be added to your application file and your application fee waiver will be applied.

All admission and scholarship decisions are made by GW, and applicants must meet all application requirements and be a competitive candidate to be considered for the scholarship.

National Black MBA Association DC Chapter Scholarship

National Black MBA Association DC Chapter Scholarship


Eligibility

Open to students who meet the following requirements:

  • U.S. citizenship or legal permanent resident
  • Admitted to and pursuing the Global MBA program
  • Preference may be given, but is not limited to, students of diverse heritage or students with a demonstrated commitment to the diverse National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA) community
  • Applicants are encouraged to be involved in the DC Chapter of NBMBAA

Benefits

  • Scholarship Award:
    Awards are merit based and cover partial to full tuition. Scholarships are awarded in various amounts, as determined by MBA Admissions.

How to Apply

  • Apply to the Global MBA program and submit a scholarship application at the same time. If you are selected to receive a scholarship award, you will be notified at the same time you are accepted for admission to the Global MBA program.
  • In the Optional Essay section of your application, indicate that you are applying for the Black MBA Association DC Chapter Scholarship.
  • Submit your completed scholarship application to Patsy Torres at ptorres@gwu.edu. If you have already submitted your Global MBA application, you may still submit the scholarship application, and your award will be considered on a rolling basis.

National Society of Hispanic MBAs Scholarship

National Society of Hispanic MBAs Scholarship


Eligibility

Open to students who meet the following requirements:

  • You must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale from either a bachelor’s or master’s degree
  • U.S. citizenship or legal permanent resident
  • Admitted to and pursuing the Global MBA program
  • Hispanic heritage or demonstrated commitment to the Hispanic community

Benefits

  • Scholarship Award:
    Awards are merit based and cover partial to full tuition. Scholarships are awarded in various amounts, as determined by MBA Admissions.

How to Apply

  • Apply to the Global MBA program and submit a scholarship application at the same time. If you are selected to receive a scholarship award, you will be notified at the same time you are accepted for admission to the Global MBA program.
  • In the Optional Essay section of your MBA application, indicate that you are applying for the National Society of Hispanic MBAs Scholarship.
  • Submit your completed scholarship application to Patsy Torres at ptorres@gwu.edu. If you have already submitted your Global MBA application, you may still submit the scholarship application, and your award will be considered on a rolling basis.

Teach for America Fellowship

Teach for America Fellowship


Eligibility

Open to students who meet the following requirements:

  • Currently serving in, or an alum of, the Teach for America corps program
  • Admitted to and pursuing the Global MBA program
  • U.S. citizenship or national/permanent resident status

Benefits

  • Fellowship Award:
    Awards are merit based and cover partial to full tuition.Fellowships are awarded in various amounts, as determined by MBA Admissions.
  • Application Fee Waiver
  • Two-Year Deferral:
    College seniors interested in participating in both the GW School of Business Global MBA and the Teach for America program should apply separately to both. Applicants admitted to both programs will receive a two-year deferment to participate in Teach for America before starting the Global MBA.

How to Apply

  • Step 1:
    Apply to the Global MBA program and submit a Teach for America Fellowship application at the same time. If you are selected to receive a scholarship award, you will be notified at the same time you are accepted for admission to the Global MBA program.

    • To receive the application waiver, select “Pay by Check” in the section of the application that requires you to pay the application fee.
    • In the Optional Essay section of your application, indicate that you are applying for the Education Pioneers Scholarship.
    • Submit your completed fellowship application to Shelly Heinrich at shellyh@gwu.edu. If you have already submitted your Global MBA application, you may still submit the scholarship application, and your award will be considered on a rolling basis.
  • Step 2:
    Provide MBA Admissions with documentation of your association with Teach for America. This documentation should be on official letterhead and signed by your previous TFA sponsor or a current TFA alumni coordinator.
