Growth Dialogue Forum Looks at China

The second China colloquium sponsored by GWSB's Growth Dialogue featured presentations by professors Yasheng Huang of MIT, Theodore H. Moran of Georgetown University and Deborah Brautigam of American University. To the right are GWSB's Danny Leipziger, professor of international business and managing director of the Growth Dialogue, and Shahid Yusuf, the Growth Dialogue's chief economist.
GWSB's Growth Dialogue hosted a colloquium on foreign investment in China that featured a presentation by Yasheng Huang, international program professor in Chinese economy and business at MIT's Sloan School of Management.
Huang observed that there is little correlation between China's economic growth rate and the volume of foreign investment in that country. China experienced robust growth in the 1980s, a period when foreign investment was minimal, but an infusion of foreign capital into the country in the 1990s was not accompanied by marked growth, he said. more
