When are course offerings available for the upcoming semesters through this website?

Spring: November of the previous semester
Summer: January of the previous semester
Winter: September of the previous semester

Am I eligible for a short-term abroad program?

Eligible students have completed at least one semester on campus before the start of the program, are in good academic standing (GPA of 3.0 or above) and have met any prerequisite course requirements.

If I am not a GWSB student, am I eligible for enrollment in a GWSB short-term program?

If you are a GW student from another GW school, a student from a consortium school, or a student from another institution, please contact our office to determine your eligibility.

Are there prerequisite courses for all short-term programs?

Some course offerings do have prerequisites that must be met before the start of the short-term abroad program in order to remain eligible. The program offering’s description will state whether or not a prerequisite exists for enrollment. Questions regarding the prerequisites can be directed to the faculty member leading that specific program.

How may I register for one of these programs?

Each program will have a different registration process, which depends on the department that is offering it. Below each course description is a link to the appropriate department where you can learn more about the course and register.

Do all short-term study abroad courses have class sessions both prior to and following the international experience?

A majority of the courses hold class sessions on-campus or online before and after going abroad.

How much do short-term abroad programs typically cost?

It is difficult to give an average cost for short-term abroad programs because program duration, destination, and course credits are the main components for the overall course cost and vary widely.

Typically, accommodations, meals, travel expenses and course credit are part of the program’s package. Also depending on the specific program, non-GW students may be charged a higher fee. When interested in a specific program you should visit the program’s web page (the link will be provided below its description) or directly contact the department that is offering it for a cost breakdown.
