The recent political changes in Egypt and the MENA region have placed considerable importance on the understanding and facilitation of Social Entrepreneurship (SE) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by organizations from all sectors to confront the challenges of reform and establish sustainable economic development strategies. At the same time, Egypt is considered the focal point of the advancement of SE and CSR principles and practice in the region in large part due to the work of the United Nations Development Program, Egyptian Corporate Responsibility Center (ECRC), and American University in Cairo (AUC).
In an effort to understand and support SE and CSR capacity building efforts in the MENA region, The George Washington University School of Business (GWSB) in partnership with the Egyptian Corporate Responsibility Center (ECRC), American University in Cairo (AUC), and Cairo University (CU) launched an international course practicum entitled "Egypt: Corporate Responsibility & Social Entrepreneurship". As a follow-on to the course, a knoweldge forum was created to extend the learning across the MENA region by involving faculty in building capacity for entrepreneurship and corporate responsibility.
