The George Washington University - School of Business

Programs

The George Washington University School of Business (GWSB) is ranked 13th worldwide and 11th in the US in a listing of Top-100 MBA programs by Beyond Grey Pinstripes. The ranking, released by The Aspen Institute's Center for Business Education, measures a school's ability to educate students on issues concerning social and environmental stewardship.

While both our faculty and our administrators have provided leadership in guiding students toward social and environmental issues in business, our students have also often taken it upon themselves to form groups, such as the GW chapter of Net Impact, to organize speaker series, panels, workshops, and conferences, such as the 2002 National Net Impact conference, to identify, excel in, and leverage internships with the World Bank, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, WRI, and many other organizations. Students have also worked with faculty associated with the GW Environmental & Social Sustainability Initiative and with our GWSB administrators to help design specialized fields in Environmental Policy & Management, Nonprofit Organization Management, and Strategic Management and Public Policy and to conduct sustainability-related research on topics such as environmental stewardship, corporate social responsibility, and business ethics.

In these and other GWSB sustainability-related programs and courses, and through various special events, students are introduced to dozens of guest experts in their areas of interest and are strongly encouraged to develop sustainability projects in external organizations throughout the GWSB network. In addition, most courses feature innovative multi-media approaches to learning, including extensive in-class and on-line discussions, site visits, expert guest speakers, and role-playing simulations, all intended to provide students with a well-rounded sustainability-oriented experience. Our numerous summer study abroad opportunities in this area are especially effective ways of advancing not only student sustainability skills but also client organization social and environmental performance.
