The George Washington University

Project Management

GW's Master of Science in Project Management (MSPM) program is among the oldest and most reputable specialized degree programs of its kind in the world. With over a decade of educating successful project managers, this unique program blends the study of project management with a grounding in general management principles, and guides students in mastering advanced project management techniques. The innovative curriculum balances practice and theory, developing the skills that professionals need to become effective project managers.

The MSPM program is ideal for managers who want to enhance their ability to integrate complex projects, motivate people, and achieve cost-effective results. It is designed to meet the needs of working professionals. Courses are offered on campus in the evening at the Foggy Bottom location, and using state-of-the-art distance learning technology, students can complete the degree from virtually any location.

Distance Learning Option

In a pioneering effort to provide worldwide access to this high-quality educational experience, the Project Management Program launched its distance mode in 1998. Students can now pursue this degree from virtually any location. Distance students primarily reside outside greater Washington, D.C., although some residents of the metropolitan area have been enrolled as distance students to accommodate work and travel obligations more conveniently.

Through state-of-the-art technology lectures are made available to distance students roughly 20 minutes after completion of each class session. The recorded lecture is fully integrated within the University's mainframe. Students log on to watch the classes at their convenience.

Class communication, such as distribution of handouts and assignments—is mediated through Web-based course management software, both for distance and on-site learners. Blackboard, a private web shell, facilitates course interaction, allowing instructors to publish course content and administrative information conveniently. Blackboard also provides virtual classrooms, e-mail, chat rooms, and discussion groups. Campus and Distance students register for classes through the same registration channels, and share an essentially identical experience of the class.
