Do I need to take the GMAT for admission into the program?
Scores are required if your cumulative GPA is less than 3.0 in an applicable business discipline or if you do not possess the requisite seven years of professional experience. Scores should be no more than five years old.
What is the length of program?
The MSPM consists of 12 courses or 36 credit hours. Students have up to five years to complete the program. Most students who enroll in the program on a full-time basis (3 or more courses per semester) complete the degree in two years.
How many courses do students normally take?
If a student is full-time, s/he must enroll in at least three courses per academic term (fall and spring). Part-time students, defined as any number of credit hours below nine, normally take one to two classes per academic term though there is no “one size fits all” approach to what is comfortable for a student with his/her professional workload and other professional or personal commitments. Some of our part-time students who experience ‘busier’ times or seasons with their jobs take more courses during the off-peak times in their jobs to balance out their schedules.
What is the average salary increase or starting salary in the Project Management field after completion of the degree?
Information on salary increases and starting salaries upon degree completion is not necessarily available for our graduates for a variety of reasons. The average length of professional experience for our students entering our program is 11 years, all whom have different objectives and motivations for undertaking the degree, ranging from the obvious, such as salary increases and promotions, to the more nuanced, such as an overall increased skill set or greater marketability for future positions within and outside of their current company. You can find more information about average salaries for a range of occupations and educational background at the Bureau of Labor Statistics: www.bls.gov.

What is a leave of absence? What is the protocol for a leave of absence? How many leaves of absence can I take during my masters in project management?
A leave of absence is taken by students who choose not to enroll in classes for one full semester, either in the fall or the spring. Summer semesters are not a part of the leave of absence nor are you required to enroll in classes for the summer semester for your degree status. You are eligible for TWO leaves of absence during the length of your degree. To apply for a leave of absence, you must fill out the Registration Transaction Form and “add” a leave of absence just as you would another course you want to take. The Project Management Director’s approval is needed for all leaves of absence.
Can I take Distance courses and campus courses at the same time?
No, you may not. Students enrolled in the distance program must take only distance courses. Students enrolled in the campus-based program must only take campus-based courses.
Can I switch from the Distance program to the campus program or vice versa?
You are allowed, with the Director’s approval, to change your status from Distance to Campus or Campus to Distance for an entire semester or longer if your personal or professional situation changes and necessitate this accommodation.
Who’s my academic advisor?
Your academic advisor is the Director of the Project Management Program, Phyllis Tutora. You may reach her at ptutora@gwu.edu or via phone at 202-994-6145.
What is an academic semester?
An academic semester for the fall runs from early September through mid-December; for the spring, the academic semester runs from mid-January through early May. The summer terms, of which there are two, are not a required enrollment period to maintain your status as a full-time student or for financial aid purposes.
