FAQs

The MSIST Program

Do I have to meet the technical prerequisites before applying?

No. Technical pre-requisites can be met once a student has applied and been accepted into the program. Workshops are offered for degree-seeking students to meet pre-requisite requirements.

Is an IS/IT degree necessary to be admitted to the program?

No. Students are admitted with diverse academic backgrounds and a variety of work and professional experience.

Can I send my application in pieces or is it better to send everything together?

You may submit materials together or as they are collected. However, applications are reviewed only once a complete application is submitted.

What is the application deadline?

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Candidates seeking financial assistance and international students requiring visas are encouraged to apply by April 1 for the Fall semester, October 1 for the Spring semester, and March 1 for the Summer semester.

Do I need to take the GRE or GMAT?

GRE and GMAT test scores are not required, but may be recommended if an applicant has a GPA lower than 3.0 or has an undergraduate degree in an unrelated field.

How many credits can I transfer into the program?

A maximum of six credit hours of graduate course work may be approved for transfer to the School of Business. Certain conditions apply. Please contact the admissions office for details.

What will my diploma say?

The EMIS Program

Who teaches EMIS classes?

The program draws on the strengths of both information technology and management instructors in the Department of Information Systems and Technology Management. The faculty is comprised of carefully selected full-time and adjunct faculty members. All faculty members are experienced graduate level instructors and have significant professional experience.

What is a cohort?

A cohort is a group of students who advance through the program together, in the case of EMIS, a special group of peers selected with the intent to provide a mixture of today's technical and business leaders.

Why is the program offered on Fridays and Saturdays?

Many successful professionals’ weekday commitments simply make pursuit of an advanced degree on a part-time basis impossible. Furthermore, many do not want to take the two to three years that part-time study requires. The alternating Friday/Saturday schedule allows for sharing of the time invested between the employer and the student’s personal time.

Who enrolls in the program?

The EMIS program is intended for accomplished professionals who generally have at least 10 years of professional experience with a focus on management and decision making responsibilities. Each cohort is comprised of students who come from a variety of professional backgrounds, as well as undergraduate, and graduate experiences.

What do the tuition and fees include?

The program tuition and fees are determined each year by the Board of Trustees. Books, materials, and class meals are provided as a courtesy to the students.

What will my diploma say?

Students graduate with a Master of Science in Information Systems Technology.
