International Travel Policy

Faculty, Staff, and Students

International travel is a vital part of The George Washington University's missions and initiatives. The University and the Office of International Programs have developed several measures of safety and security for all members of the GW community to follow when traveling abroad on a GW sponsored trip.

The Office of International Programs has compiled these measures into one unified policy. As stated on the Office of International Programs website and in the policy, any faculty, student or staff member proposing to undertake University-supported or University-related international travel must follow the appropriate approval, insurance, and travel security requirements set forth in this policy.

The University provides International Travel Insurance to University employees engaged in University business abroad, as well as to graduate and undergraduate students completing departmentally approved course work or research abroad. The policy includes: travel advice services; security evacuations; re-patriation services; access to International SOS clinics and on-line information, such as country guides, travel security reports, vaccinations and medical recommendations, and business and cultural etiquette.
