Schueler taught courses in marketing principles at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and marketing management at the University of Michigan in Flint during his PhD program. He had an extensive career in pharmaceuticals and health information technology prior to pursuing his PhD. His positions included sales, marketing, and management. Schueler was a pioneer in direct-to-consumer advertising of prescription drugs and worked closely with the Food and Drug Administration on its development.

Schueler was vice president of marketing for Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals, president of Marion Merrell Dow Canada, commercial director for Hoechst Marion Roussel, USA, executive vice president of global marketing for Aventis Pharmaceuticals, and president and CEO of MyDocOnline. He has served on a number of advisory groups and industry associations including chairman of the board of directors of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Canada. Schueler has participated in numerous media interviews, and appeared on MSNBC and the Today Show.
