Symposium on Private Environmental Governance (Day 1)

  • Time: 08:00 am - 05:00 pm
  • Location: The Jacob Burns Moot Court Room • GWU Law School • 2000 H St. NW • Washington, DC 20052

The Private Environmental Governance Symposium is a multidisciplinary event co-hosted by The George Washington University Law School, Journal of Energy and Environmental Law, Institute for Corporate Responsibility, and School of Business, the Vanderbilt University Law School and Department of Sociology, and the Environmental Law Institute.

The symposium will explore environmental governance from an academic perspective. Here at the Institute of Corporate Responsibility in collaboration with our colleagues in other disciplines, we are studying partnerships and multisector collaborations around environmental issues that supplement (or perhaps displace in some instances) traditional government functions. The topic is gaining some traction, and we need to better understand its implications for businesses, NGOs and government. Private governance may prove especially important in light of the recent election, which may result in a reduced federal role in at least some areas of environmental governance.
