EURC PhD Pre-Dissertation Research Grants

Who Is Eligible: All GWU PhD students and PhD students in a member or affiliate-member university of the ACES consortium who are conducting EU-related research are eligible to apply. Students must be in their PhD Pre-Dissertation stage. Applicants are encouraged to submit multidisciplinary proposals.

Funding: The PhD Pre-Dissertation Research Grants awards up to three pre-dissertation research grants, in the amount of up to US$1,250 each, for the academic year 2009-2010. Awards may be used for travel or for other research needs.

Proposal Requirements: An application should consist of the applicant’s name, institutional affiliation, project title and abstract (not to exceed 1000 words), project (i.e. dissertation) supervisor (with contact information), two letters of support, and CV (resume). The deadline for 2009-10 applications is March 15, 2010. All proposals MUST be electronically submitted by 5:00pm March 15, 2010.

Please submit proposals to The George Washington University EU Research Center Director Professor Scheherazade Rehman at PLEASE PUT IN THE SUBJECT HEADING OF THE E-MAIL “EURC-ACES 2009-10 GRANT”.

Notification of this round of award selections will be approximately within 3 weeks of submission deadline of March 15, 2010. All qualified proposals will be evaluated through a “blind review” process. The proposals will be reviewed jointly by an EURC-ACES Proposal Review and Selection Committee. The author(s) of the selected Grant Proposals will receive a letter stating the terms and conditions of the award.

Grant Deliverables Deadline:

Successful candidates are to submit all required grant deliverables by August 1st 2010. Upon completing the research candidates must provide:

1) The written results of the project (in hard copy and electronic format). We expect this to be in the format of an academic paper (a substantial paper) submitted.

2) A synopsis (not to exceed 500 words) contribution of the award to the research.

3) A final product i.e. a chapter of PhD dissertation (when PhD dissertation is finalized – this can occur after the due date of the deliverables on August 1, 2010).

NOTE: Successful candidates must also provide acknowledgement of the award in any publications related to the project. Also if pertinent, with regards to dissemination: the submitted final research results will be made available to GWU, ACES and its participating University communities and the general public through the Internet and/or in the form of printed copies under the name of GWU, ACES and its participating universities. Authors are encouraged and may submit their research to other publications.
