Tahir has been a doctoral candidate in Decision Sciences Department since 2007 and is expected to graduate in the Spring 2012 semester. His research interests are in the areas of applied stochastic modeling, stochastic optimization and Bayesian simulation with applications in operations management. The title of his doctoral dissertation is "Essays in Simulation-based Stochastic Programming with Applications in Operations Management".

His current research includes:

- Simulation-based Two Stage Stochastic Programming with Recourse (with Nicholas Polson and Refik Soyer) (to be submitted to Decision Analysis)
- Multi-Stage Production Planning Problems with Endogenous Uncertainty (with Nicholas Polson and Refik Soyer)
- Simulation-based Stochastic Dynamic Programming with Applications to Portfolio Management (with Refik Soyer)
- Effectiveness-Equity Trade-offs using Mean-Gini Efficient Frontier in Facility Location Problems on Networks (with Miguel Lejeune and Srinivas Prasad)
- Multi-Period Portfolio Allocation with Decision Dependent Returns
- Bayesian Time Series Analysis of Mortgage Default Rates

As a teaching assistant, he has assisted many MBA and undergraduate classes including Operations Management, Business Statistics, Risk Management, Management Science and Time Series courses. Some of his recitations have been recorded in audio and video in real time and have been used as part of distant learning education at GWU. As a facilitator instructor, he has taught distance-MBA courses Business Statistics for three semesters under the supervision of a professor. He has also developed and taught the "Introduction to Statistics" workshops for Master of Project Management (MSPM) program in 2009 and 2010. He will be teaching two sections, one distance and one on-campus, of the Business Statistics course for MBA and MSPM students in Spring 2012 semester in GWU School of Business.

He has worked and done projects for many corporations including IFC, Innovatek Consulting, Carlsberg, Procter & Gamble and Valeo. He has presented his work in many academic circles including INFORMS Conferences, International Research Conference on Bayesian Learning and GWU Decision Sciences Department Seminar Series. He holds an undergraduate degree in industrial engineering from Bilkent University, Turkey.
