The George Washington University
School of Business: The F. David Fowler Career Center

The Undergraduate Career Management Overview

The F. David Fowler Career Center (FDFCC) team is committed to building strategic partnerships among students, alumni, and employers that result in successful, fulfilling careers for our students. As an undergraduate student you have ready access to the guidance and training of dedicated career management professionals to assist you in finding the best fit for your skills, values, and interests.

FDFCC is unique to business school career centers in that we partner with Lee Hecht Harrison, a leading global career management consulting firm, to bring you expanded career resources and job search assistance. Additionally students are introduced to a structured RISE: Four Year Career Management Process.

  • Your relationship with the FDFCC career coaching team begins when you arrive on campus. Your activities in the First Year Development Program include a StrengthsQuest assessment to help you identify key strengths to incorporate into your first resume draft.
  • During your Freshman and Sophomore years you are encouraged to conduct career related research on the web, and attend workshops and company information sessions. Based on these activities you will solidify your interests and identify your top career choices.
  • In your Junior year you have the option of attending a Career Management Course to develop a Personal Marketing Plan. Alternatively, you may participate in voluntary workshops. You will also find on-campus employer interviews and career fairs helpful in landing an internship or summer job.
  • As a Senior you will put your targeted job search strategy to work in interviewing for full time jobs and obtaining and negotiating job offers. Much of the career management work involves practicing and improving your networking and interviewing skills.
  • Individualized one-on-one strategy sessions with your career coach take place throughout your undergraduate years and are designed to be thought provoking and action-oriented.
  • A variety of print and Online Career Resources complement your research in industry and job functions, creation of target lists, and preparation for interviews. In particular our GWorkSB.com system is the main source for announcements, event registration and online recruiting.

At FDFCC, our relationships with students are built on mutual respect, professionalism, and goal-oriented strategic action.
