  •  Federal Student Opportunities Workshop 
      • DATE: Friday, September 2nd from 3:30 - 5:00 PM
      • LOCATION: Lerner Hall, Room 101 (GW Law School)

Getting into the federal government through the competitive hiring process is extraordinarily difficult. In fact, at one point, only 2% of all applicants were being offered interviews.  However, for current students there are several programs and opportunities that offer the chance to gain invaluable experience and the potential to become full-time employment positions after graduation. 
 This workshop will talk about what these programs are, how to find them, and how they will look after the new Pathways Programs are implementation.  The workshop will be recorded and made available electronically.

  • Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program
    • DATE: Friday, September 2 from 5:00 - 6:00 PM
    • LOCATION: Lerner Hall, Room 101 (GW Law School)

The Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program is the U.S. Government's premiere recruitment and training program for those in their last year of graduate school. The PMF is a 2-year, development position within the federal government, that offers participants experiences that will prepare them to be the future managers and leaders of the federal public service. Fellows are chosen through a rigorous series of written and oral assessments in the final year of the their graduate studies, and if chosen, can almost pick the position that interests them the most. At the end of their two year program, they are guaranteed at least a GS-12 level position in the federal government.

If you will finish your graduate degree (certificate, master's, professional, doctorate) between September 1, 2011 and August 31, 2012, and have even the smallest interest in the federal government, you should apply to the PMF. 

This workshop will give the information you will need to know what to expect from the PMF, what to expect from the application process, and how to prepare now. The deadline to apply for the PMF is September 25 and the deadline to be nominated by your program is September 30.   This presentation will be recorded and made available electronically.
