2015

Student Initiative Award Winner

Michel Richaud, GMBA 2015, received the student initiative award at the 2015 Business Gives Back Gala for his involvement with Proyecto CreCER, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting health through education in underserved Mexican communities. Founded in 2011, Proyecto CreCER fosters preventative health in Mexico through integrative community initiatives.


2014

Student Initiative Award Winner

Josh Pavano, GMBA 2014, received the student initiative award at the 2014 Business Gives Back Gala. Pavano is the founder and CEO of Jonas Umbrellas, which is a nonprofit organization that provides greater access to clean water for individuals across the world. Each Jonas umbrella directly supports a specific clean-water project, allowing buyers to trace their positive impact.

Distinguished Alumni Award Winner

Marcia Bullard, EMBA 2001, received the 2015 Distinguished Alumni Award for her outstanding work promoting literacy and education. Bullard founded the national day of volunteering, Make A Difference Day in 1992 and has been active in the nonprofit sector since then, serving as chairman of the board of America’s Charities, and as a board director of the Fund for Investigative Journalism, Points of Light, the Southern Illinois University Foundation and the Heart of America Foundation.


2013

Student Initiative Award Winner

Meredith Leebrick, co-founder of the non-profit organization, Abriendo Mentes was honored with the student initiative award at the 2013 Business Gives Back Gala. Abriendo Mentes’ mission is to enhance, educate and empower. Offering four different innovative programs for youth and families and rural Costa Rica: Youth Development, Adult Education, Women’s Empowerment and a Technology Center, in an effort to enhance education, promote economic empowerment and “open minds”.

Distinguished Alumni Award Winner

Bill Ziegler, co-founder of Talengin, was honored with the distinguished alumni award at the 2013 Business Gives Back Gala. A social business that builds talent, Talengin contributes 25% of their profits to global organizations to improve opportunities for children. In collaboration with their sponsors, they work with leaders in organizations that serve children to build leadership capacity.

  • The Financial Literacy Program is a GWSB student organization educating individuals in the community on how to make good financial decisions in their lives founded by Amir Abdallah
  • LearnServe is a non-profit with connections to GWSB students that teaches international social entrepreneurship in DC high schools.
  • Presented Dan Simons, Partner at Farmers Restaurant Group, with the inaugural Business Gives Back Distinguished Alumni Award for leading ethically and responsibly in a business setting.
  • Daniel Lieberman and Music for Matt, a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization that hosts an annual benefit concert in partnership with the Peace Corps, Tulane University, and Sigma Phi Epsilon that has raised more than $35,000 for deserving Tulane students and the Peace Corps Partnership Program in Mali.
  • Jay Leblang, founder of the Jenna Ashley Smiles 929 Foundation, which supports community service projects with a focus on youth, literacy, and medical research
