In line with the George Washington University School of Business pillars: "Act Responsibly, Lead Passionately, Think Globally," Business Gives Back is a student-led initiative celebrating a commitment to responsible business and social change. It culminates in a benefit featuring musical performances by Global MBA students. Now in its second year, Business Gives Back was launched by a group of Global MBA students to advance the diversity of the GWSB student body. Last year's event, held at House of Sweden on the Georgetown Waterfront, was a huge success and raised over $5,000 for LearnServe International, a non-profit directed by a current GWSB student that teaches international social entrepreneurship in D.C. high schools. Save the date for this year's event to be held on January 28, 2012.
Business Gives Back has three objectives:
Business Gives Back will recognize a distinguished alumnus, nominated by faculty, staff and alumni, and selected by a student committee, for leading ethically and responsibly in a global business context. The distinguished alumnus must be truly representative of the three pillars of the GW School of Business. He or she will be invited to receive the award at the event, and a plaque honoring the distinguished alumnus will be prominently displayed in Duquès Hall.
In addition, three student-led initiatives will be selected to compete for the funds raised at the event. The initiatives showcased are nascent nonprofits or community service groups founded or led by GWSB students that, as a reflection of the GWSB pillars, make a positive impact within the D.C. and global communities. Attendees will vote on the initiative when purchasing tickets.
