GWSB's MBA Alumni Highlight the Holiday Season

Over 100 DC area MBA Alumni and current MBA students flooded the third floor of Tonic Restaurant for GWSB's MBA Alumni Holiday Event on December 1st.  Alumni spanning several decades were in attendance to send the year 2009 out in style.

The spotlight shined on the student and alumni participants of the MBA Mentor Program. This event gave the student participants an opportunity to connect with their mentor and further strengthen their relationship.  MBA Alumni not currently participating in the program had the opportunity to learn more about what is involved from the mentors and they could experience first hand the significant impact mentors have on their students.

The Office of Alumni Relations would like to thank our MBA Mentors and student mentees for their dedication to the program.

Professor's Circle Opens to Alumni in North Carolina, By Eric Goldman

Professor Handorf speaks with GWSB Alumni in North Carolina

On Monday, November 16th GWSB Alumni in the Triangle (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC) were given the rare opportunity to investigate the current recession and housing crisis with distinguished GWSB Professor of Finance Dr. William Handorf.

Patrick Hartley, MBA '82, senior vice president, Raymond James & Associates, Inc. graciously hosted the Triangle's inaugural GWSB Professor's Circle.  The board room of Raymond James' Durham office was filled to capacity with excited alumni, including GW Trustee I. Allan From, BBA '72.

The Professor's Circle brings together GWSB's most notable professors with a select group of alumni, parents and friends in cities around the country.  They meet for thoughtful discussion of current events and benefit from the shared experiences and expertise of group members.  It is a unique opportunity for professors to meet with industry leaders to solicit feedback on current research, and for alumni to reconnect with favorite former teachers and each other to continue their GWSB education.

MSPM Alumni Association Hosts Its Inaugural Event, by J. Russell Fugett, MSPM '07

Dr. Khamooshi and Dr. Cioffi mingle with students at the MSPM December EventOn Tuesday December 8th, the GW Master of Science in Project Management Alumni Association held its first event. The reception honored the December 2009 graduates of the Business School's Master's Program and was organized by J. Russell Fugett '07 with the support of the new Program Director, Anne Koprice, as well as Leah Kuppersmith and Amy Schwartz from the GWSB Office of Development and Alumni Relations. Over 50 alumni and students were in attendance. Faculty members Dr. Denis Cioffi, Dr. Homayoun Khamooshi, and Dr. Young Kwak also attended and offered words of encouragement and support for this new alumni group.

The GW MS Project Management Alumni Association has been created to develop a network of project management practitioners to foster career development, mentor current students through the Project Management Student Association (PMSA), facilitate continued learning and certification, and to support the growth of the MSPM program and its faculty.

The program has 900 alumni throughout the world. Over 60% of the alumni completed the program as distance students, which makes for a truly global alumni base. The MSPM Alumni Association seeks to leverage this strength by ensuring that the leadership has balanced representation of alumni who completed the program in both distance and campus modes. With this leadership structure, the group will be able to make it easy for all of its alumni to be active members. The MSPM Alumni Association's goal is to be a model for other GW alumni groups who wish to engage alumni around the world.

The group will announce its leadership team and 2010 calendar in January. Staple programs and communication tools will include career mentoring, regular webinars and e-newsletters, December and May alumni/graduate receptions, a website and a blog.

If you are an MSPM Alumnus and have yet to get connected, we want to hear from you! All MSPM alumni are encouraged to join the groups on Facebook and Linkedin both under the name The GWU School of Business Master of Science in Project Management Alumni. For more information email: mspmalumni.gwu@gmail.com.
