The GWSB Alumni Advocate is a newsletter featuring ideas on how you can get involved with the GWSB Alumni Association and information on upcoming GWSB alumni events.

Volunteer for your Reunion Committee

Save the date for Alumni Weekend 2009 - Thursday, October 1st through Sunday, October 4th! Reunion classes for Alumni Weekend 2009 are 2004, 1999, 1989, 1984, 1970-1979, and 1959.

Host a School of Business Alumni Event in your town!

Hosting is simple! The Office of GWSB Alumni Relations can secure tickets/speakers, send invitations, manage RSVPs and more! Links for Life: The GWSB Student/Alumni Lunch Series

The GWSB Office of Alumni Relations has launched Links for Life: The GWSB Student/Alumni Lunch Series. If you live in the DC area and would like to create “links” with GWSB students, consider hosting a table at our next luncheon. This is an informal forum for you and current GWSB students to connect. There is no charge for the lunch and tables will be assigned to alumni on a first come, first served basis.

Join the GW Career Advisor Network. The Career Advisor Network is a GW-only online network designed as a resource for students and alumni seeking professional development or advice on a particular career. The Career Advisor Network is open to alumni who wish to participate as a volunteer advisor or wish to use the network as a service. To join the network, registration in the alumni online community is required.

DC Events

Washington Capitals vs Philadelphia Flyers game and pre-game event

Join fellow GW alumni for the DC Alumni Chapter’s annual Capitals vs. Flyers game. The GWSB Office of Alumni Relations has purchased a special block of tickets for MBA and MTA Alumni and their guests. The pre-game event will be held in the Verizon Center and we will be joined by GW Professor Lisa Delpy Neirotti who will discuss sustainability in sports management at GW.

We are able to offer tickets at a special discounted rate for GW alumni and their families! The cost of tickets includes the pre-game event. Tickets will be available for pick-up on the day of the game at Verizon Center Will Call.

Save the date-February 4, 2009 “It’s just good business!“

It’s just good business: Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility in a Global Economy

Please join Jennifer Griffin, associate professor of strategic management, as we kick off our “It’s just good business” series with GWSB and Law Alumni in Philadelphia, PA. In today’s global economy it is more important than ever for firms to act ethically and socially responsible.

Professor Griffin will build upon insights from corporate strategy, corporate responsibility, and international business in a global economy. She will also explore ethics as an integral part of corporate responsibility and the use of the legal lens as one of the multiple perspectives to better understand corporate responsibility. Professor Griffin will speak about these points as related to knowledge-based firms/sectors, including law firms.

Cocktails and Conversation with GWSB Professors and Stdudents

Alumni are invited to meet with Dr. Salah Hassan, GWSB Chair and Professor of Marketing, and Dr. Robert Dyer, Professor of Marketing. They will speak about the latest developments at GW and President Knapp’s vision to build a global GW community. Alumni will meet with MBA candidates coming to the UAE to study business practices and to visit business leaders.
