The GWSB Alumni Advocate

November 2011

The GWSB Alumni Advocate is a newsletter featuring ideas on how you can get involved with the GWSB Alumni Network, articles on recent events and information on upcoming GWSB Alumni events.

Thank you for your gifts of wisdom!

On behalf of the GWSB Office of Development and Alumni Relations, this Thanksgiving season it is my honor to thank those alumni who have graciously supported GWSB through a variety of programs. Gifts of time and wisdom are invaluable to creating a stronger GWSB Alumni Network.

There are a variety of ways for alumni to give back including serving as an MBA Mentor, hosting a table during the GWSB Student/Alumni luncheon, speaking to a GWSB class or student organization, hosting a group of students during a career trek, or providing a faculty member with access to information for research.

Gifts like these increase the value of your degree and create a greater legacy for our students. Thank you to those who have already participated in these programs! For those who are interested in getting involved, please feel free to contact the GWSB Office of Alumni Relations at 202-994-3497 or via email at gwsbalum@gwu.edu. We look forward to working with you!

-Leah Kuppersmith, BBA '03, associate director of alumni relations, GWSB

IBM's Watson has shown the world that a computer could rival a human's ability to answer questions presented in natural language on the game show Jeopardy! With its win in February, the possibility of using this level of computing came to the forefront of the public's mind and imagination. (Read more...)

Nominations sought for Business Gives Back Distinguished Alumni Award

In line with the George Washington University School of Business pillars: "Act Responsibly, Lead Passionately, Think Globally," Business Gives Back is a student-led initiative celebrating a commitment to responsible business and social change. It culminates in a benefit featuring musical performances by Global MBA students. Now in its second year, Business Gives Back was launched by a group of Global MBA students to advance the diversity of the GWSB student body.

This year Business Gives Back will recognize a distinguished alumnus, nominated by faculty, staff and alumni, and selected by a student committee, for leading ethically and responsibly in a global business context. The distinguished alumnus must be truly representative of the three pillars of the GW School of Business. He or she will be invited to receive the award at this year's event to be held on January 28, 2012.

For more information on Business Gives Back and to submit a nomination for the award, click here. Nominations are due by Monday, December 5th.
