More than 50 Alumni from the NYC area turned out to mix and mingle with MBA students at the Student/Alumni reception held at Morton’s Steakhouse on October, 23rd. Alumni heard from the MBA students about their site visits to the New York Stock Exchange, Credit Suisse and The New York Times. According to the students, networking with Alumni was definitely a highlight of the MBA Trek. Read all about the trek by visiting the students‘ blog at http://nytrek.wordpress.com/.
Undergraduate students recently had their annual trip to New York, November 13th-14th. They kicked off their visit with an alumni panel and reception held at the UBS Conference Facility. Students heard from Alumni panelists Jon Handel, BBA ’03; Liz Crego, BAccy ’06; James Simmons, BBA ’07, and Mike Donaldson, BA ’01, about the transition from GW to NYC and what it takes to land a job. The panel was moderated by Carol Engel, BBA ’85 and MBA ’88. After the panel, students networked with over 30 Alumni from the NYC area. The next day students visited companies including TD Securities, PriceWaterhouse Coopers, McCann-Erickson and NewsCorporation.
The School of Business hosted the inaugural “Links for Life” GWSB Student/Alumni luncheon on November 19. “Links for Life” is a new program designed to create “links” between members of the GWSB student and alumni communities by providing a forum for them to connect. Participating alumni served as “table leaders” and represented a wide variety of School of Business programs, including BBA, MBA, MTA, MS in Project Management, and MS in Information Systems. This allowed students to connect with alumni from their specific program or field of interest.
During the luncheon, alumni described their jobs, firms, career paths, and offered motivational and career advice to students, with a special emphasis on making the most of employment opportunities during this slow job market. “If you are deciding whether to spend your spare time studying to get an A+ instead of an A or to go to a networking event, choose the networking event. The connections you make with people could be invaluable," said Anna Tant, MBA ’08.
Alumni table leaders were: Steve Potter, BBA ’05; Scott Harmon, MBA ’03; John Kelle, MSIST ’98; Sarita Beorgenicht, BBA ’06; Habib Nasibdar, MSPM ’97; Jennifer Kirkhoff, MBA ’00; Lisa Kidder, MTA ’03; Anna Tant, MBA ’08; Eric Kerensky, BA ’97, JD ’06; Ron Costin, BA ’00, MSIST ’01; Alex Kuester, BBA ’97; and Paul Becker, BBA ’80.

Complete a survey for one of GWSB’s doctorial students, George A. Hrivnak, Jr.
One of the few remaining hurdles to earning his PhD is collecting data to complete his dissertation. Your participation in his survey will help provide that data.
His study examines the interaction of subordinate and supervisor personalities, the resulting effect on the collective working relationship, and the associated attitudes and perceptions of both individuals regarding factors such as job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and performance. Consequently - and what makes this study unique - his research requires completed surveys from both a supervisor AND his/her subordinate.
If you would like to participate, please email email@example.com, and provide the mailing address where you would like to receive the surveys (i.e., home or office). Surveys will be mailed to you in the next week or two. Please return your completed survey by December 15.
