GW Alumni Spend An Evening with the Texas Rangers

GW Alumni and guests enjoy the view from the private suite

The School of Business Office of Alumni Relations expanded its outreach to GW constituents in the Dallas area on July 27th.  Partnering with the Regional Programs Office, GWSB hosted "An Evening with GW and the Texas Rangers."  Always looking to engage new alumni, GWSB was thrilled to hear from Alumna Chasity Crawley, BBA '00.  "I recently relocated to the Dallas/Fort Worth area from Maryland.  I was looking for opportunities to expand my network when I recalled the invitation to be a Regional Ambassador for a GWSB Alumni event."  The Alumni Relations staff partnered with Chasity to create an event that would draw local alumni back to the GW community.

Upon hearing of this event, GWSB Alumnus Grady Raskin, BBA '96 was able to transform the event into a once in a lifetime opportunity.  With his 12 years of experience at the Texas Rangers, Grady ensured alumni enjoyed the game from a private suite, mingled with former Ranger's catcher Jim Sundberg, and even gave them a chance to go on the field prior to the game.  From the first pitch to the last called strike, Dallas Alumni were able to reengage with each other and their alma mater.

If you would like to help bring programming to your area, please contact Amy Schwartz to become a Regional Ambassador and expand your local network!

AMBA Students Revamp "Links for Life" - By Steve Blossom, MBA '10

Alumna Mindy Pipes, BBA '01 networks with AMBA studentsLast Thursday I stepped out of the elevators on the 6th floor of Duques to the sounds of many conversations. Unlike most nights in Duques, these sounds were not the result of open classroom discussion. Nor were they from a passionate group intellectually debating the particulars of a case due later in the week. Rather, it was the sounds of GW MBA's, current and former, getting to know each other in an open and personal environment aptly named "Links for Life".

Although this was the third installment of "Links for Life" this incarnation of the event brought many firsts. From the small first of holding the event at night to a big first of holding the event specifically for the Accelerated MBA (AMBA) program students. The most impressive first was the attendance of first year AMBA students taking part in the event despite it being their own first (and long) day as GW MBA students.

The event provided a unique opportunity to interact with members of the GW Alumni Community. Alumni candidly answered numerous questions thrust at them by my fellow eager MBA students. Some alumni spoke of what it was like when they were here before Duques was built. Whereas others shared with us the nickname they gave Duques after construction was completed. Others provided valuable insight on what to expect after leaving GW based on their own experiences. A couple even managed to have a healthy discussion about the upcoming football season. Regardless of the topic of choice, it was remarkably apparent that for these alumni, GW runs deep. Even years after they left GW, GW had not left them. It was with that sort of observation that I was able to see the true value of being part of the GW MBA family.

With such an enriching experience I now look forward to being part of future "Links for Life"... as an alumnus of course.

MBA Reunion: It's Not Business as Usual

"So much has happened with everyone over the last 10 years both personally and professionally.  People have gotten married, had babies, changed jobs, changed jobs and changed jobs. Some have even founded new companies! It's a very different world than it was a decade ago; perfect time to reconnect, and network, with fellow GW MBA graduates. I'm really looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones." - Noah Israel, MBA '99, Reunion Committee member

We have numerous events planned for our MBA Alumni that you won't want to miss!  Please visit the MBA Reunion registration page to reserve your spot today!  Here is a brief overview of some of our highlighted events.

3rd Annual Ramsey Student Investment Fund Conference - Asset Allocation and Agriculture: Post Crisis Investing

In the aftermath of the global financial crisis and recession, many investors are questioning the need for and the effectiveness of asset allocation. Is portfolio construction still relevant? How can investors protect their portfolios from another market downturn? Investors are also seeking investment themes that could outperform the market. One theme gaining ground among investors is agriculture. Many believe that continued urbanization and changing diets around the world will increase the demand for food and water, resulting in strong returns to agriculture investors. The 3rd Annual Ramsey Student Investment Fund Conference will explore these issues and more with a keynote speech and two panels of industry experts.
