The GWSB Alumni Advocate is a newsletter featuring ideas on how you can get involved with the GWSB Alumni Association and information on upcoming GWSB alumni events.  

First MBA Pre-Reunion Celebration Kicked off in The Big Apple - By Deborah Darrell, MBA '94

Several Alumni enjoy the rooftop at BoBoNew York area alumni from several graduating MBA classes attended a pre-reunion bash at the fashionable Bobo restaurant in Manhattan on June 23.

The event was organized by NYC Committee Chair Deborah Darrell, MBA '94 with co-host committee members: John Dalton, MBA '07; Emily Yoo, MBA '03; Daniela Lattes, MBA '02; Mark Davis, MBA '99; Susi Rubinowitz Sur, MBA '97; Leslie Reisman Benjamin, MBA '96.  More than 40 MBA Alumni reconnected on a spectacular rooftop deck for cocktails, sumptuous cuisine and spirited conversation.

The festivities were posted on Facebook and shared with alumni nationwide. Organizers for the October reunion are developing a social networking campaign that will include "simul-postings" on Twitter, Facebook and MySpace.

DC MBA Pre-Reunion Follows Suit with Success

Alumni enjoy the many chocolate dessert items at Co Co SalaOne week after hosting the first Pre-Reunion Reception in New York City, MBA Alumni gathered in Washington, DC for their own Pre-Reunion.  At Co Co Sala, alumni from 1971 to recent graduates reconnected and reminisced while enjoying the restuarant's famous chocolate desserts.

The host committee for the event included Lila Lee, MBA '09; Justin Bakewell, MBA '09; Eran Goudes, MBA '09; Bryan Goshorn, MBA '07; Vikas Kumar, MBA '05; Julie Powers, MBA '04; Ryfie Amkraut, MBA '04; Noah Israel, MBA '99.

With the success of the MBA Pre-Reunion Receptions, GWSB hopes to see many more alumni at MBA Reunion in October!

Call for Links for Life Volunteers

The GWSB Office of Alumni Relations is gearing up for its third installment of Links for Life. If you live in the DC area and would like to create "links" with GWSB students, consider hosting a table at a special session for part time MBA students at a cocktail reception. This is an informal forum for you and current GWSB students to connect. There is no charge for the reception and tables will be assigned to alumni on a first come, first served basis.

The Links for Life Reception will be during the PMBA Institute on August 20 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Please contact Amy Schwartz at 202-994-3497 or if you are interested.

MBA Class Executive Program

Class Executives represent their class after graduation, keeping classmates connected to one another and to GWSB. Executives share ideas and strategies with each other and with the School; they are ambassadors for alumni outreach activities and actively support the programs of GWSB. The primary purpose of the Class Executive Program is to build the MBA Alumni community. Positions are available for MBA Alumni from the full time program, professional program and EMBA program.

Host a School of Business Alumni Event in your town!

Hosting is simple! The Office of GWSB Alumni Relations can secure tickets/speakers, send invitations, manage RSVPs and more! We are currently looking for MBA Alumni volunteers to participate in our mentor program for Fall 2009.  Becoming a mentor to a GWSB student is a wonderful way to connect with students and your alma mater.  Levels of participation vary from relationship to relationship and you will be paired based on your interests.

Join the GW Career Advisor Network. The Career Advisor Network is a GW-only online network designed as a resource for students and alumni seeking professional development or advice on a particular career. DC Events

Save the date- August 20 "Links for Life"

"Links for Life" is a program designed to create "links" between members of the GWSB student and alumni communities by providing a forum for them to connect.  This program gives students access to alumni in an informal setting where they can gain professional insight and ask questions that they may not ask in an interview situation.

We are expanding the program to include students of the Professional MBA program. A special session of "Links for Life" will be held in the evening on August 20, 2009 in a reception style format.

Save the date- October 1-4 MBA Reunion Weekend

The MBA Reunion is just around the corner and the 2009 MBA Reunion Committee has been hard at work planning the final details.  The schedule of events includes a networking reception with current MBA students, a keynote speaker, and an MBA Reunion party hosted by Dean Susan M. Phillips.  At the reception Dean Phillips will honor Alumna Jennifer Boulden, MBA '04 with the first "Dean's Distinguished MBA Alumni Achievement Award."  All MBA Alumni are welcome to attend the MBA Reunion.

Save the date- August 3rd Luther Cheers on the LA Dodgers

Join other Luther Rice Society members for the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Milwaukee Brewers Game. Enjoy a private reception on the Loge Terrace before the game and watch the Dodgers battle the Brewers from left field. Food and drinks will be provided.

Tickets will be mailed out 3 days prior to the game. A reminder email will go out with more details the day before the game to confirm your reservation.

Space is limited and is intended for Luther Rice Society members only. Please register by August 1st. There is a 2 ticket limit per Luther Rice Society member. Exceptions can be made for families.
