"Stimulating the State"

On June 15, 2009 The School of Business Office of Alumni Relations launched a new lifelong learning series, "Stimulating the State." The GWSB "Stimulating the State" series features GWSB Alumni or Alumni connections speaking on the economic stimulus plan and the impact on specific states.

The series was inspired by GWSB Alumna, Jennifer Hrycysyzyn, MBA '97. Jennifer contacted the Office of Alumni Relations and expressed interest in hosting a GWSB Alumni program in the Boston area. She presented the idea of having a program focused on how the economic stimulus plan will affect the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The event was hosted at The Old State House located in downtown Boston. This venue served as quite the historic backdrop for the program. The panel featured presentations by: Daniel J. LaPlante, CFA, senior vice president and senior portfolio manager with Citizens Bank; Meredith Ballou, BA '07, chief of staff for representative David P. Linsky; and Anne Browning Walker, MA '06, legislative aid for Governor Deval Patrick. Mr. LaPlante presented an overview of the current economic situation. Ms. Ballou and Ms. Walker discussed the role of the Governor/Legislature in distributing stimulus funds to the Commonwealth. GWSB Dean's Board of Advisors members Vicky Lazzell, MBA '80 and Howard Rubin, BBA '81 were on hand to make introductions during the presentation and to share the latest GWSB news with Alumni.

We are hoping to bring installments of "Stimulating the State" to other regions. Please look for information on upcoming programs on our calendar of events.

Get involved with the GWSBAA. Here are some new programs for you to participate in.

This is an informal forum for you and current GWSB students to connect. There is no charge for the reception and tables will be assigned to alumni on a first come, first served basis.

The Links for Life Reception will be during the PMBA Institute on August 20 from 6-8. Please contact Amy Schwartz at 202-994-3497 or if you are interested.
