The GWSB Alumni Advocate is a newsletter featuring ideas on how you can get involved with the GWSB Alumni Association and information on upcoming GWSB alumni events.

Announcing the MBA Class Executive Program

Class Executives represent their class after graduation, keeping classmates connected to one another and to GWSB. Executives share ideas and strategies with one another and with the School, they are ambassadors for alumni outreach activities and actively support the programs of GWSB. The primary purpose of the Class Executive Program is to build the MBA Alumni community. Positions are available for MBA Alumni from the full time program, professional program and EMBA program.

Volunteer for your Reunion Committee

We are currently looking for MBA Alumni to help us plan MBA Reunion 2009. If you are interested in volunteering for the MBA Reunion Committee, please email leah@gwu.edu.

Save the date for Alumni Weekend 2009 - Thursday, October 1st through Sunday, October 4th! Reunion classes for Alumni Weekend 2009 are 2004, 1999, 1989, 1984, 1970-1979, and 1959.

Host a School of Business Alumni Event in your town!

Hosting is simple! The Office of GWSB Alumni Relations can secure tickets/speakers, send invitations, manage RSVPs and more! Hosts are asked to attend the event, greet attendees, offer local expertise and share ideas for future events! Become a Mentor to a GW Student

Join the GW Career Advisor Network. The Career Advisor Network is a GW-only online network designed as a resource for students and alumni seeking professional development or advice on a particular career. The Career Advisor Network is open to alumni who wish to participate as a volunteer advisor or wish to use the network as a service. To join the network, registration in the Alumni Online Community is required.

Keeping Your Network Warm!

Join the MBA Programs Office and the Office of Development and Alumni Relations for an evening reception in honor of the MBA Mentor Program. This event gives mentors and mentees an opportunity to reconnect while also providing a forum to network with current and future program participants. This event is also open to those Alumni who are interested in learning more about the program.

The Kalb Report

“The Business of Business Reporting“

Four of the nation’s top business reporters, Alexis Glick, Diana Henriques, Steve Pearlstein, and Ali Velshi, will join moderator Marvin Kalb to explore the “business of business reporting” on the next edition of The Kalb Report, Monday, Feb. 9, 2009 at 8 p.m. in the Main Ballroom of the National Press Club. The panel will examine the global economic crisis, the roles journalists have played in this evolving story, how the media affects the market, and how business influences the news media. The Kalb Report is produced jointly by The George Washington University Global Media Institute, Harvard’s Joan Shorenstein Center, and the National Press Club. The series is underwritten by a grant from the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation.

It’s just good business: Now is the time to go green!

Please join Mark Starik, Department Chair and Professor of Strategic Management and Public Policy and Director, Institute for Corporate Responsibility, Environmental Sustainability Program, as we continue our “It’s just good business” series with GWSB Alumni in Washington, DC. Professor Starik will address sustainability issues facing companies today. He will also provide an update on sustainability at GW and how the new Global MBA Program is educating our future business leaders on this important issue.

The GWSB “It’s just good business” series features GWSB faculty members and alumni speaking on current business events related to corporate social responsibility. Program topics are designed to reach alumni from all GWU schools and who work in a variety of industries.

Philadelphia Events

It’s just good business: Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility in a Global Economy

Please join Jennifer J. Griffin, associate professor of strategic management, as we kick off our “It’s just good business” series with GWSB and Law Alumni in Philadelphia, PA. In today’s global economy it is more important than ever for firms to act ethically and socially responsible.

Professor Griffin will build upon insights from corporate strategy, corporate responsibility, and international business in a global economy. She will also explore ethics as an integral part of corporate responsibility and the use of the legal lens as one of the multiple perspectives to better understand corporate responsibility. Professor Griffin will speak about these points as related to knowledge-based firms/sectors, including law firms.

San Francisco Events

Save the date-March 5-6 “MBA Career Trek is coming to San Francisco!“

MBA Students will be visiting companies in the San Francisco area, having private dinners with Alumni and mingling with Alumni at a reception. Details on the company site visits will be available in upcoming issues of our newsletter.

The Student/Alumni reception will be held on Thursday March 5th. Complimentary hors d’ouevres and beverages will be provided. There is no cost for this event, but registration is appreciated.

Join alumni from the top business schools for a speednetworking event hosted via speednetworking.com on behalf of GWSB and the participating business schools. This a great opportunity for you to mix and mingle with GWSB Alumni and alumni from the top business schools in the Chicago area.
