Student Life

The students in our Master of Accountancy program are a very diverse group. In the academic year 2007-2008, 57% of our incoming class are international students from more than a dozen countries. 84% of our enrolled students are full-time, 67% are female and the average GMAT is 634. The average age is 26. Welcome to our international family!

Being in the world-famous city of Washington, D.C., a beautiful, cool place with lots of places to visit, you will also find it is a good place to think and learn.

We strive to provide our students with a range of activities to help them develop their professional abilities to the fullest. Beyond the academic excellence that we maintain, we offer the following opportunities for students to develop themselves professionally and personally:

Teamwork and leadership

Each entering class of masters students participates in a teamwork and leadership training exercise. We recognize that teamwork is the mode of operation in many organizations. Particularly in accounting and consulting, engagements with clients are performed in small teams of professionals. The teamwork training for our students helps them gain insights into the dynamics of team interactions. They also find it an excellent way to get acquainted with their new classmates.

Mentorship

We have organized a program that teams our students with working professionals on a one-on-one basis. The mentors are most often our own recent graduates, and they offer their experiences in the workforce, in preparations for professional certification, and in educational choices within our masters program. The program is entirely free-form; the student is matched with a mentor, and the frequency and nature of the interactions depend on the needs and availability of the two people.

Advising

Each of our masters students is offered advice from an academic advisor, who is expert in eligibility for courses, registration procedures, and other issues in successfully completing the degree. Furthermore, every student is assigned to one of our faculty, and they meet with that faculty member about once a semester to review study plans, course selections, and other matters of concern. The small size of our program lends itself to close contacts between the students, faculty, and staff.
