
Lawrence G. Singleton became Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs in September 2007. Prior to assuming his role as associate dean, he was and continues to be a member of the faculty of the Department of Accountancy, where he teaches financial accounting and managerial accounting courses to both undergraduate and graduate students. Dr. Singleton has instructed financial executives within the United States government as well as international executives. He has been a visiting professor at ESC-Grenoble in Grenoble, France, and at Beijing University in Beijing, China. Prior to joining the faculty at The George Washington University, Professor Singleton taught at Louisiana State University.
Dr. Singleton has conducted research and published articles in various areas of accounting, including the FASB’s conceptual framework project and small business uses and preparation of accounting information. During his tenure at Ernst & Young LLP, he conducted research for E&Y’s Central Region Auditing and Accounting Group and National SEC Practice Group, where he co-authored sections of The Ernst & Young Guide to Taking Your Company Public.
Dean Singleton writes and consults on financial and managerial accounting and auditing topics and their applications in both the private and public sectors. He is the creator of the Accounting Treasure Hunt® professional development seminar, the most effective (and the most fun) way for non-financial professionals to learn accounting, finance, and financial management fundamentals. His clients include Cisco Systems, Inc., America Online, Inc., Harley-Davidson Motor Company, The NASDAQ Stock Market, the National Investor Relations Institute, the National Geographic Society, the Public Relations Society of America, Siemens Corporation, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, and The World Bank.
Dr. Singleton is a recipient of the George Washington Award in recognition of outstanding contributions to the University. He served as faculty advisor to Beta Alpha Psi, the national professional accounting fraternity, and received the Beta Alpha Psi Outstanding Faculty Vice President - Arthur Andersen/Richard E. Claire Faculty Development Award. He has also served as President of the Mid-Atlantic Region of the American Accounting Association.
Lawrence Singleton is Secretary/Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Human Resource Certification Institute and a member of its Executive and HR Committees, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Beta Gamma Sigma, Beta Alpha Psi, the American Accounting Association, and the Society for Human Resource Management. He has won numerous teaching awards, including being recognized as Best Professor by the Accelerated MBA Program, awarded the Outstanding EMBA Faculty Award, recognized repeatedly by the Society for Human Resource Management as a Top Ten Annual Conference Speaker, and receiving the Outstanding Accounting Professor Award by Beta Alpha Psi.
Dr. Singleton received Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. degrees in accounting from Louisiana State University. He is a Certified Public Accountant.
